Medicine - Medicine is the branch of health science concerned with maintaining human health or restoring it through the treatment of disease and injury. It is both an area of knowledge – a science of body systems, their diseases and treatment – and the applied practice of that knowledge.
Natural Hygiene - Natural Hygiene is a branch of alternative medicine that claims to provide "all the life requirements brought to bear upon the living organism in due proportion and according to [the] need" of human beings for preservation and restoration of health (see Shelton 1968 Chapter X). It claims that the human body is a self-maintaining and self-healing system whose natural lifespan is between 120 to 150 years old.
Iridology - Iridology is an alternative medicine practice in which patterns, colors and other characteristics of stromal fibers of the iris are examined for information about a patient's systemic health. Practitioners match their observations to iris charts which divide the iris into many zones believed to correspond to specific parts of the human body.
Body surface area - In physiology and medicine, the body surface area (BSA) is the measured or calculated surface of a human body. For many clinical purposes BSA is a better indicator of metabolic mass than body weight because it is less affected by abnormal adipose mass.

The science of medicine refers to the social structure of the science of preventing and curing diseases. Ayurvedic doctors explain their cures for cancer, diabetes, blindness, and paralysis, and share stories of sick Westerners who have sought their help after having failed to be cured by Western medicine. All rights reserved. Brain biochemist and all-around dynamo, Candace Pert, explains the science behind the new mind-body medicine, the result of hundreds of lectures the author has given to scientist colleagues, medical professionals, and lay people. Pert achieved a certain celebrity in the film, an Indian practitioner of Ayurveda who explains its basic principles. She later became known as a feminist rebel for publicly speaking out when she was not honored with a prestigious award, and then later, when the government ignored her efforts to interest them in an AIDS drug she discovered. The author, chief of brain biochemistry at the National Institute of Health for many years, theorizes that emotions are the message centers linking the physical body and the more elusive mind.
